One day you finally knew<\/span>
\nwhat you had to do, and began,<\/span><\/h3>\n

though the voices around you<\/span>
\nkept shouting<\/span>
\ntheir bad advice \u2013<\/span>
\nthough the whole house<\/span>
\nbegan to tremble<\/span>
\nand you felt the old tug<\/span>
\nat your ankles.<\/span>
\n\u201cMend my life!\u201d<\/span>
\neach voice cried.<\/span>
\nBut you didn\u2019t stop.<\/span>
\nYou knew what you had to do,<\/span>
\nthough the wind pried<\/span>
\nwith its stiff fingers<\/span>
\nat the very foundations,<\/span>
\nthough their melancholy<\/span>
\nwas terrible.<\/span>
\nIt was already late<\/span>
\nenough, and a wild night,<\/span>
\nand the road full of fallen<\/span>
\nbranches and stones.<\/span>
\nBut little by little,<\/span>
\nas you left their voices behind,<\/span>
\nthe stars began to burn<\/span>
\nthrough the sheets of clouds,<\/span>
\nand there was a new voice<\/span>
\nwhich you slowly<\/span>
\nrecognized as your own,<\/span>
\nthat kept you company<\/span>
\nas you strode deeper and deeper<\/span>
\ninto the world,<\/span>
\ndetermined to do<\/span>
\nthe only thing you could do \u2013<\/span>
\ndetermined to save<\/span>
\nthe only life you could save.<\/span><\/p>\n
